Dining In

What’s the most money you’ve ever spent on a meal? Was it worth it?

For our Twenty Fifth Wedding Anniversary we drove to Herndon, Virginia to eat at an Indian Restaurant called Adayar Ananda Bhavan. We began our married life in India and it was that time this chain of restaurant was becoming famous. So we were really excited when we found that one had opened close to us and wanted to make it special by dining in there. We decided that for dinner we would drive there and spend the next day seeing the landmarks at the capital of the country.

It was a four hour drive and the last hour exhausting because of the traffic.

Okay, how was the food? The food was great but the cost double of what we eat here in Pittsburgh. On the way we had stopped for a trail walk on the Great Allegheny passage so our family was so hungry we ordered double than we originally eat. I would say we got a hefty bill.

We as a family never do take outs because my special boy loves to dine in. It is one of his favorite activities and even during pandemic we used to pick up food and eat in parks.

Fandango’s provocative question can also be answered in this same post. He asks Do you ever use a meal delivery service such as DoorDash (or whatever local equivalents are available in your part of the world)? If so, how often would you say you have meals delivered to your doorstep?

No we do not do take outs nor use any kind of door delivery services. We dine in, even if he just has a milk shake at Burger King. He loves the ambience inside a restaurant and we have trained him hard to be in one.

Our family’s celebration has to involve an activity my special boy loves and that is eating out. Sometimes they maybe expensive, but if that makes him happy we are all for it.

I would say it did pinch our pockets a little and cost us double but looking back (it was 2021), we were lucky the restaurants were open and we could enjoy a meal as a family however expensive it was.

    1. I think it is like buying designer clothes, a personal choice.

  3. Twice this year, we’ve spent over $200 on dinners (supper clubs for both my and Tara’s birthdays). But the kicker was a 12-course serving meal with wine at a trendy place in Portland run by a Michelin-starred chef. Hilary Swank was actually seated at our table. I don’t regret it, but man, $300+ is a lot of money for one meal!

    1. It is an occasion. So why not spend. I was fine but my husband wasn’t 😊. A brand comes with a price .
