Picklesburgh

The pickle festival is in Pittsburgh this weekend and it was a fun evening today.

Sometimes we need to get out of our comfort zone to enjoy somethings and that is what we did today and it was a success.

We are not a alcohol drinking family so we avoid certain places and add to that my son’s sensory issues we shy away from certain places but Picklesburgh today was the place to be.

The smell of food and music and the ride on our light rail system gave us the added advantage and made our special one smile more today.

I love jalapenos and cucumber pickles but I didn’t know so many had my same taste buds. It was so crowded. Anyhow the hero of the event was Dill Cucumber pickle and no one else.

Every vendor’s line was long but our family had safely decided to opt for pickled pizza. But when we were in a pizza line my husband got into a smaller line to get fried cheese pickles and fries.

We waited for an hour to get our pizza and my special one didn’t make a peep.

A slice of pizza and soda was expensive but my special boy was smart. He found out the pizza didn’t have any sauce and asked for ketchup!!!

It said spicy but Nah it was not

All my diet went out to the drain as I had a slice. We then decided to have some ice cream for dessert. We found a gelato stand and it had Dill Pickle Chips crunched toppings😊. My younger one at this point said, we are not going to have pickles with our dessert and had a plain regular gelato. The eight dollar a cup really made me shy away from this. Learnt today food festival food is expensive!!!

Then it was off to the market square to get ourselves pictured with the giant pickle balloon and get some souvenirs. Even the souvenir shops were crowded and we had to settle ourselves to Heinz Ketchup T shirt for my boy. Ketchup took a backseat since it was pickles day! The line was much smaller there.

The Pickle Festival had pickle juice drinking contest along with so many other family friendly events. But this three hour fun was sufficient for our family. Yes, it was not only fun but an experience in itself.

We always miss things happening close to home and try to travel for things far away. Glad I was able to attend this food festival. It is not only fun but supports the local businesses too.
