Day 4, Road Trip, Lake Superior

Day 4, Yesterday our family completed the quest of visiting all five of the Great Lakes. It was 2008 summer when we first visited Lake Erie with my parents and my Dad casually made this suggestion. That time we were in Boston and visiting all the Lakes looked beyond our imagination. Within 3 years we moved to Pittsburgh and we found the Lakes were closer to us. We planned vacations around the lakes and finally in 2023 we have achieved it😊. This kind of a trip cannot happen unless the whole family gets excited about it. Both my younger one and my husband are weather channel junkies. I love visiting places and so this was made possible 😀.

We traveled on the Trans Canada Highway, one of the longest in the workd nearly 150 kms to visit one of the Lake Superior Beaches. It seems my boys had watched a documentary about this Highway on the weather channel called, Highway from Hell. The Great Lakes are snow making machines and a Highway nearby can be a Hell during Winters 😊.

Our first stop on the way was to a gift shop run by the Agawa Indians. Of course I got myself a doll which was on sale for my Navarathri Golu.

The park office was run by forest ramgers and only after a few minutes I realized this was equivalent to the National Parks in the US.

The vastness of the lake cannot be captured in pictures. We remembered collecting pebbles with my Dad on Lake Erie’s shore. But this one had more pebbles than we could imagine. My younger one tried swimming in the lake and said there were rocks underneath the waters. We stopped near a cliff overlooking the lake. Me standing in front and posing for the picture was the most adventurous thing I did for the day. Otherwise a very relaxing day on the shores of Lake Superior. A much needed one 😊. By the way, I didn’t cook at all yesterday. It was all eating out so that was an added bonus for me.
