The Lakes, WWE !

The one natural beauty I really love about living in the North East of this country is the abundant water. Of all, I love the lakes. During the 80s, when I was growing up, we had a severe water shortage in our city. The rains had failed and life was miserable. My grandparents used to get up in the middle of the night to procure our drinking water supplied by the Corporation. (Now they are getting excess rain and worried about floods!)

So, when we first went to Lake Erie, my Dad was thrilled to see waves of fresh water and he told us that, visiting all of the five Great Lakes should be in our bucket list. I had already wrote about that on my Bloganuary question of the day, A road trip I would like to take. I have visited four of the Great Lakes and hopefully we would be doing Lake Superior some time soon.

Hey there is no drinking water shortage near these lakes.

  1. God, I thought I was the only one in blogosphere who woke up at ungodly hours to fill plastic pots from the corporation lorry.

I lived briefly in the NE of your country. When I first went there, I was scandalised at the amount of water people were wasting – having sprinklers on for hours, filling up bath tubs to soak in, leaving the water running while brushing teeth. It’s a wonder I didn’t get a stroke !

Even now I panic at the sound of dripping or leaking faucets.

I live in the same city now, and things are a lot better. But the scars remain.

  2. I love the lakes too Uma but I’ve only been to Lake Erie, but I have been to The Outer Banks in North Carolina probably almost as many years as I am, except the past few years. I really miss the ocean, I love the sounds of the waves and the sea gulls and the ocean winds. I try to never waste water. I know there are some countries where the people don’t have access to clean drinking water.
