Light at the end of the tunnel

It was a busy week. A visit to an art show, the movie theater and catching up inside the gym. I was eagerly waiting for Saturday to roll in, not to sleep in but to check off on a bucket list item.

An art show at my sonโ€™s program

It was time to take our new family member Bucee out of my closet to our next National Park Adventure. We got Bucee at Kentucky and now he has traveled to five states and today being Maryland.

Bucee had to be cleaned after todayโ€™s adventure

The bucket list was a trip to the Paw Paw tunnel in the Cheasapeake and Ohio Canal Path and it was worth the 2.5 hr drive.

I do not want to bore you with the history of the tunnel, but let me tell you the โ€œlight at the end of the tunnelโ€ does mean something . The 3000 feet long tunnel looked as if it was a short walk but it was a 20 minute walk with bumps and pot holes and dripping water. We could see the other end and a light but every step counted. Once we reached the other side we saw two waterfalls! Nothing huge but beautiful.

Check the video for the two ends of the tunnel and thye are 3000 feet apart
A beautiful waterfall

The 3 mile walk was an adventure since we needed flashlights and my young man had to wear a head light. We have done multiple obstacle courses but this one was for the books.

We had to leave early in the morning due to heat warnings and this gave us time to stop at Fort Necessity Battlefield. There was a half mile walk to a small fort but my entire family did learn a lot about French American War and the young George Washington.

We did pick up a 250 piece National Park Puzzle as a souvenir this time and I think my man will be busy with it all next week.

Getting our National Park Passport stamped!

A note about National Park Passports. Every park has a cancelation stamp with a date. We stamp in our national park passport. What a fun way to remember the day we visited the site. Meanwhile, my National Park Service, app continues to create me albums of my visit. It happens as soon as I leave the park. We are creating memories by these visits.

We have been averaging two National park sites every month and with a busy June I thought I would miss that. But we did two in half a day and it was not something we planned.

That looks like so much fun and a learning experience. You find the most interesting places to visit. You are a United States of America traveler. I would have liked to walk with you. I wish Paul and Laura were still here.
