Today I made sojji and bajji. Nothing new just a sweet and savory. During the good old days of arranged marriage, the bride’s family entertains the groom’s family with this combo the first time they visit the house to see the would-be bride. This was in an effort to convince the groom family to accept the bride.

The past few weeks, I have been watching a movie clipping. The would-be bride’s mom and sister-in-law busy in the kitchen making the same. The sojji or the sweet, usually it is Rawa Kesari or Sooji Kesari is an easy dish to make. But it involves too much clarified butter. But my mind was all set to cook the same and eat it.
It so happened 29 years ago I met my husband on this day and let me tell you he was not offered this combo. Why did that happen? As I said, these things may be revealed when I do my autobiography one day. That said, I took the opportunity to make the same combo and offered it as an evening snack. The only difference, he ended up doing the dishes. And the talk about diabetic, cholesterol all happened, and we ended up walking to burn up all the bad things that we had swallowed. Ha ha, nothing romantic or exciting as the day the would-be groom family visits the would-be bride’s house.
The taste of sweet, followed by a spicy treat and a cup of good coffee does make one so happy. Maybe that was the reason the same was offered during that occasion.
