When my boy was little, he had tough time falling asleep. We used to drive him in our car around our neighborhood and that calmed him down. I think many people would have experienced it even with typical kids. We understood my boy also loved long distance travel and we used to drive to lot of places during the weekend. The advantage being, he was inside the car and will not be lost. That was how hyper he was inside our home. I think I got a lot of rest inside a moving car than inside the house.
Then there was a period of lull, with two kids we did not travel much. I think the pandemic really kickstarted our travel! I think it is not limited to us alone! Recently I saw a video about people retiring and cruising around the world. Much cheaper than staying in a brick home.
I do think more people are traveling than before. In fact pandemic opened our eyes to those who felt cocooned in their homes. But I think, this is limited to people who had the inclination to travel. Not all want to travel. Many like the comfort of their homes. Many like to do other activities like going out for a game or gardening.
Instead of shopping for designer shoes or bags, I am looking for adventures or activities to do for my young man.
My travel is also customized for our family’s needs. My man has to be entertained otherwise the entire trip would be a “dud”.
I keep hearing, many people are traveling and travel has become simple. Yes, travel is much simple now but to travel, you need to be interested in something there. You just do not do it for peer pressure. It becomes boring.
Different people have different travel schedules. We love to come back home after a few days. We are sad to go home on the third day, but by the end of the forth day, I wait to cook in my kitchen. I told my husband I loved the coffee I made myself the day after we came back after the trip. Yes, it smelled “sweet home”.
This spring and summer I have planned to do a lot of day trips with my “young man”. Yes, that is what I am going to call him instead of “my boy”. He will be turning 28 this August and I really want to show him different things. Wish us luck!
By the way, summer travel is hard. I really hate to leave my garden in care of my bunnies, chipmunks and squirrels.
Tons of thoughts this Sunday night when we got our first cancellation stamp at a National Historic Site close to our home. We didn’t know about this place. It had wonderful trails and we learnt something from history. My son saw a real well too.
