I did blog earlier that our recent trip to India had boosted my confidence in taking my son out more. But, I still need to plan so many things ,otherwise things can become hard.
Smithsonian museums have always been on my bucket list of places to be visited. But I never had the courage to take my son inside one. So this weekend I decided we need to rip that bandage off and try one.
Okay, did we achieve it? I would say Yes and No! We went to a Smithsonian museum but not in Washington DC but at Chantilly, Virginia. This too is an air and space museum but set up inside a hanger.
I watched multiple videos as how I should handle my boy and yes, we walked nearly two miles inside the museum. The best part was, he was able to tolerate a virtual reality ride. He had his glasses and headphones on all the time!

We still had time left, and we went Antietam battlefield maintained by the National Park Services. Yes, we had watched a documentary about the battle and it gave me goosebumps while we were there. I was a bit unprepared for this part of my trip, but even with the chilly weather we walked in the corn fields were the actual battle took place.

This is just a day trip, but to make our life more comfortable we stayed overnight at a hotel. Yes, that is the disadvantage of early sunset. Anyhow maybe during spring and summer we may go back again to THE SMITHSONIANs in DC. To my boy’s advantage there are a lot of Indian food available and as my younger one said we didn’t eat any American food on this trip 😊!

By the way the museum was free with just 15 dollars for parking and there was ample parking space with no lines to enter. The battlefield has a 20 dollar entrance fee and my son’s National Park Access card let us in for free!
