A road trip

When you plan a trip, one person makes a suggestion and the other vetos it down. But yesterday, we went on a trip accepting everyone’s suggestion. The temperature in the high ninties and humidity making it even more hotter, we made a day round trip to Puducherry from Chennai.

The roads are great and the eateries along were excellent, was an added point since my boy slept and ate all through the trip.

My dad was sentimental we visit Aatcheswarar temple in Acharapakkam. He had worked at this place when he was young and had never visited it. So, 60 years later he took his family there. The priest, was strict with my boy and asked him to stay inside the temple. He narrated the temple history (ha, a compulsory story time) and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The next temple stop was Nadupalani. This is being managed by my Guru. I had seen pictures and was eager to see the big Murugar statue , something similar to the one in Batu caves, Malaysia. It was just 100 steps. My boy climbed casually but coming down he slowed down. 😃

It was almost lunch time, we thought we would miss Mayilam Murugan Temple. My boy had spent a lot of time at a rest area. Eating fresh Indian snacks and coffee is a luxury 😃. But we were on time. My boy slept in the car as the driver watched him and the rest of the family made a quick visit. By the way, having a driver a luxury that we cannot afford in the United States.

Too many sentiments attached to the Ganesha temple, Manakula Vinayakar Temple in Puducherry for my husband . We never imagined to go there with our boy. My boy enjoyed it, since it was air conditioned 😃!

I didn’t need to pack anything for this road trip😃! We had excellent food all through the way. As I ate, I remembered my vitamix and nutribullet at home. They need to work overtime when I go back.

South Indian rasam, even on a hot day they are good
Dinner at Mammalapuram
The dinner menu was cool. But we couldn’t take in much.
The smell from these garlands is so beautiful
Entering Puducherry
As promised my husband took me to Puducherry beach. But it was 2 in the afternoon. I can take it!😃
Puducherry assembly! Seemed we just missed the chief minister
French quarters of Puducherry
Brownie ice cream at 2 pm. The ice cream passed but the brownie failed. My son didn’t like it.

I grew up with coconut trees all around. With population explosion, I had to go on a road trip to see these trees. What a day it was. We left at 6.20 am and came back around 9.20 pm. My boy slept through the night 😀! Yay, finally the jet lag went away. Touchwood!

Madras is now Chennai and Pondichery is now Puducherry. I would love to see this 1960s movie when I go back home.

We had rented a car and driver from a travel agency. When I tried cleaning up the car, the driver said I didn’t need to clean up the same. He said, it was his job😀! I think that was the best thing I heard yesterday!

The past few years, we have been doing a lot of road trips with my son. Even, with change of climate and country my son could tolerate things yesterday. It was a huge victory. We still had autistic issues. But people in restaurants, priests in temple were all cool with him. The driver was great and this is what made this trip memorable. By the way, no one in the temple asked us why he was in shorts or made him wear a dhoti which we were nervous about. I never felt uncomfortable through out the trip!
