India travel, Indian store, Little INDIA in Illinois and Indiana

It’s been a while we have traveled to India, but memories are fresh. The long travel and jet lag are a big nuisance and I would say it is not something everyone craves. Have you seen the rush to get out of the plane when it lands? Have you seen the satisfaction people have when they leave the gate even on a two or three hour flight. Imagine traveling with kids more than 16 hours it is not fun!

Temple in India.

So, we do not travel to India often, but we go to Indian groceries often. We have done it once every week, but now I am planning better so we go only once every two weeks. The reason, we end up bringing more snacks than we need.

The snacks!

We had a road trip that took us across Chicago, Illinois. I found out about Little INDIA in Devon street with Pakistani and Indian shops. The traffic was way beyond we had expected and I was so scared that my husband would start lecturing me why we should not make these trips. But we ended up in a wonderful Indian restaurant that served us a great Gujarati Meal. Half the vegetarian dishes in the meal was new to us. But we enjoyed it.

A saree shop
Boat tour and a down town Chicago view.

The trip to Chicago, Illinois was in itself a detour and I added more complication with Devon street. From parking to traffic nothing was fun and I would say I am not a huge fan of Chicago but sometimes we need to take these detour and enjoy things that are out of our comfort zone.

I hate spring forward and fall backwards when we adjust our clocks and we do not see our phones changing when that grand phenomenon is happening. But when you are Indiana it is fun to see whose phone changes time first. By the way, the state of Indiana has two time zones.

So for I

Thank you all for stopping by today for the Letter “I” and see you all tomorrow.

By the way Happy Birthday to my Appa! He has taken me all over India when I was young and I think all his meticulous planning gene is what I got to make all these trips.

  1. We are so lucky in that we’ve visited India each of the last 12 non-Covid years. Love it! The people; the food; the weather. The food – again. 🙂 😀

  2. That food looks delicious. We have no good Indian restaurants where I live. We have to go to a larger city.
