Saree shopping

Where would you go on a shopping spree?

It has been a while I have gone to India and so saree shopping has just been online or someone else buying me one. But why not make a trip to few of Indian cities and get one piece from each city as a souvenir. I can have one for my own or maybe gift to my family. Join my shopping spree as I travel to various cities in India.

My first stop would be Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu. Close to my hometown it is famous for it’s silk sarees, I have been there and I shopped for my marriage in this small temple town.

Next stop would be to Kerala. I would love to stop at another famous pilgrim center Guruvayoor. Here after my darshan of Lord Krishna would get a Kerala kasavu saree.

Moving up North will be to Mysore, the place my Guru has his main Ashram. This would be place to get a Mysore Silk Saree. Day and night difference between this kind and that of Kancheepuram. The light weight saree makes you look thin with all it’s glory😊.

Then off to Andhra to get a Dharmavaram. I have never had one of this kind. So this is going to be for me only and not going to gift to anyone.

Let me then fly up North to Varanasi, for a Benaras silk. Varanasi is famous for so many things but Benaras silk is something I have craved for all the time. The work is heavy and the saree would make a good party wear.

I am getting tired now. My shopping continues at Kota in Rajasthan or Chanderi in Madhya Pradesh. I have had pieces of both but were locally purchased, so one of each in those states would be great.

But I will end my shopping at Surat in Gujarat. I can just pick up as many gift sarees as possible, since they are supposed to be at wholesale price.

My trip has come to an end, yet I have missed on so many other places in India that are famous for sarees including famous Bengal cotton sarees, Uppada silk and Pochampalli saree. Maybe will do during another trip.

    1. Thanks I could have done a better job if I could have pulled out all the different kinds of sarees from my closet. I could have atleast given hyperlinks. But it was too much work. Glad you learnt something.
