TV Shows

What TV shows did you watch as a kid?

Television was a luxury when I was growing up in India. In fact color Television was considered a pride. We just had one channel and we didn’t have many shows. It wasn’t until early nineties we saw an influx of multiple channels and boy, it did flood the market. Since we were studying my Dad decided not to buy these extra cable packages. I left home for work to a completely different state and my Dad installed cable Television with the entire package. While I was in my hostel, being one run by nuns Television was practically banned. After lot of complaints we used to watch movies, I would say a marathon around five or six every alternate weekend.

So, until I got married and moved to the States I really craved to watch television and I was fine if it had anything on it. Sunday movies and oliyum oliyum, songs from movies on Fridays attracted all. Saturday morning or Sunday evening we used to have some cartoon shows like He man or spider man. The National Doordarshan would broadcast award winning movies from all over India each Sunday. I had watched Bengali and even Oriya movies. When a second channel was added on National Television we did have some good shows like Surabhi, a Geography based program and a quiz show run by a person called Siddarth Basu.

There weren’t many choices but we enjoyed what was broadcast on Doordarshan. The one and only channel.

In life we have to make so many decisions. While growing up my generation never had to make that decision as what to watch on TV 😊unlike today’s world when we just keep changing channels and end up watching nothing 😄!

Anyhow technology has improved and we have so many shows and movies literally on our finger tip. Thanks to wordpress I walked on a memory lane.

Anyhow it is a different kind of Television World now. I am planning to watch some detective shows on Britbox this weekend and I plan to have fun😊.
