Dosas got me excited

Tell us about the last thing you got excited about.

It looks like all this week I have been writing about food or making videos about food. Okay, we all need food to survive and it is definitely part of our lives.

Today we went to ISKCON, Krishna Temple in West Virginia. It was an unplanned visit and we reached there around 2.30 pm. Any temple atmosphere my boy smells food and we had to get a box of sweets even before we sat for our prayers.

We then came outside and saw a live dosa (rice pancakes) counter outside. Okay, seeing this even my husband a very picky eater got excited. I started observing the counter and saw a continuous stream of orders being placed and a variety of it being offered. It costed anywhere between 11 and 15 dollars per dosa. A bit more expensive than restaurants but people were willing to pay since it was a fund raiser for the temple.

In my excitement, I told my son in my language that he can too can start a similar dosa live counter if he works hard one day. To my surprise the chef, who was making it said of course he can and I was like shocked. I thought he spoke Hindi and didn’t know my language Tamil. He then said, his brother lives in Chennai and he too had lived there and spoke fluently.

Yes, we are nowhere near setting up a live dosa counter. But I see a ton of opportunities that he can get if he masters the skill. I don’t know how I am going to execute it but faith and hardwork and God’s grace can move mountains.

Watching a live dosa counter and in full concentration
Maybe a wonderful banner like this?

  1. I had similar experience in Rishikesh. I was commenting about tuft of some hindiwalas in tamil to my friend Srinvasan.
Suddenly on of that hindiwalas turned to me and started talking in tamil. I felt bad

  4. We have a large southeast Asian population in my town, so lots of restaurants. Recently, one called “Dosa” opened, but I didn’t know what it was until you last wrote about them. I’m quite looking forward to going.
