A few weeks back I wrote a post saying my son finished one of his 300 piece puzzle. The same time, I had the opportunity to drop his work at his program’s Connecting Me Home to be exhibited for their art and garden show.

This is the first time my boy’s work has been exhibited in public and when I saw the words, artist, Ani I was more than thrilled. It has taken hours and hours of therapy and hard work to reach this point for him. He is an young adult now but when he was three, he never was able to place a single piece triangle on a puzzle board. At that point, my husband was telling me maybe we would just be working on this skill all through his life.

He turns 26 soon, he still struggles with a lot of skills but we have narrowed it down a few that he can do and we have started working towards it. Yes a college education or a full time job is not his cup of tea but he is being kept himself busy with activities that come much easier and interest him more.

When my boy was three, I received a phone call from an autism specialist in India and she was the first to tell me the poetry “Welcome to Holland”, that we pack the bags for Italy and land in Holland instead. This was a new journey and a different travel experience. It took me a while to understand this story. Yes, I really love to travel to Italy, but now me and my boy are stuck in Holland which I did not plan. But while we are here why spend the time crying about it but enjoy what it has to offer.
