My husband has been busy this week with yard work. The weeds grow at a rapid rate and it seems like a never ending process. Anyhow my husband has spent a lot of time in the yard and I do not see a difference. Maybe he is just escaping from me?
We didn’t plant much this season but the tomatoes have really surprised us. The vegetables have their own way of growing. We did not water the tomatoes for nearly a week and they survived. We came back and started watering them, I see yellow leaves. Maybe they want the freedom like my kids or do not want to be smothered? Anyhow people in India ( or is it just Chennai?) I hear tomatoes have become expensive and I see one too many memes so here are a few for you to look at.

I planted one jalapeño pepper plant in a pot and they too gave us our first yield. I have no idea if we will get more. But enjoying whatever we are getting. These are huge and it was not spicy at all. But they had ton of flavor.

We have a variety of Rose of Sharon. These are perennials and seem to doing good in our region. We offer flowers to God and enjoy looking at them. But me and my husband have been competing with jasmine that I have in a pot. I got it for 10 dollars at Whole Foods 3 years ago (touchwood they survived some winters inside) and they have a full bloom once a year that lasts couple of days. We noticed it was this week and we have been rushing to pluck and offer and it has become a healthy competition 😊. The hibiscus or the Rose of Sharon, blooms more and we have been neglecting it a bit this week. But we will be on to them once this jasmine craze comes down.

My husband works more in our vegetable patch and yard. I should give him some credit. But him taking full ownership of jasmine plant I could not let it happen.
Anyhow it was a very sweet smelling week. We thought the strawberry plant we planted last year was dead but my husband has been picking up one or two the past week. Okay, I too have been rushing to the garden to pick a few and have been successful. The strawberries are sometimes hidden and my husband’s sciatica cannot handle that! So I too did some strawberry picking.

So what do my kids do? They escape when we say garden work. My special older one helps us carry the mulch and the garden soil. Once that is done he settles himself in his room and does not care about our garden. My younger one keeps saying his eyes burn or his skin itches in the garden. It seems the yard and our vegetable patch are our territory. But we do have someone who loves it and stays there all the time. Guess who it is? Here he is.
