When my special boy was three, we asked my mom to come and help us. When my mom came, we took that as an opportunity to see more places than ever. My husband had a friend at work who suggested places we could visit while she was here. Most of those trips were just day-to-day. But looking back, I would have loved to stay at those places, which would have made it more interesting. But I was new to the country, and the internet was also in its infancy. We also did not have GPS and relied on my map-reading skills. I was very poor at it.
We visited Mt. Washington in New Hampshire and Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts.
Mt. Washington is known for its unpredictable weather. We climbed the mountain using the Mount Washington Auto Road. The road climbed to an altitude of 4618 feet. My mom was scared, and she told us, “If you are making any trips like these here, please do not tell me.”

Martha’s Vineyard, a small island, is the vacation place of many presidents. I did not know about it at all and just followed my husband on this trip. The tour bus guide was really funny. She told us all about the Kennedy family and how they vacationed. She said the island was full of skunks. I did not know what the skunk was until I saw it on Curious George. By the way, she told us the movie Jaws was filmed in the island and she showed that place too! Tour bus guides can tell us anything and we all should just laugh and listen 😊. I would say the hardest part was my little boy running around the boat. He really gave the three of us a good workout. Added to it, I was having seasickness. An instant rasam (a soup) my mom made after coming home is still in my memory.

These two trips happened nearly 25 years ago. We never went back to Mt. Washington or Martha’s Vineyard. Even with our tiny human torturing us all through the trip, we made the best of it. We still remember and laugh about it. I think this is what traveling is all about.
So for A to Z challenge

M is for Martha’s Vineyard and Mt Washington (of course this travel happened with my mom).
