Anagadipuram to Abington and more!

I was born in a village in Kerala (God’s own country) called Angadipuram. Nestled in the district of Malappuram Kerala, it is famous for it’s beautiful Temple, Thirumandhamkunnu Bhagavathi Kshetram. I was delivered at home by a midwife and my Mom’s grandmother. Okay, me and few of my cousins were the last of that generation who had a home birth. I need to ask my Mom how she did this! Maybe she just had a lot of faith in her grandparents and comfort in that particular atmosphere. Why would she leave the comfort of a hospital and doctor in the city my Dad was working. Anyhow that is another story for another blog. When I was over three months old, my Mom came back with me to the city my Dad was working. That is when my first travel began. My Dad said, I laughed at the sight of the train (Mangalore Mail) coming to a stop and I think I may have predicted my travel future when I was just three months old. Yes, I have put in a lot many miles.

My visit to my birth house in Angadipuram ,2003. Property sold and a shop in front 😊

From a hot humid place in India my travel took me to cold United States of America. The first home, a townhouse our family purchased was in a town called Abington in Massachusetts. famous for Nor Easters, we have dug through so many feet to uncover our parked car and enjoyed a very mild summer. But I learnt all about St. Patrick’s Day at my son’s pre school as the town was full of Irish settlers. The six years that I lived in this home was when I learnt a lot about autism and multiple therapies. The basement, gym and the basketball court were my special boy’s therapy center and he learnt so many skills there.

We traveled a lot for my son’s therapies and one of which was to Austin. I would say this was a game changer as far as traveling was concerned. We needed to stay nearly a week and we decided to stay at Residence Inn, a chain of Marriot with a kitchen attached. We learnt my boy was more comfortable in a suite/home like atmosphere outside the home and we have ever since stayed with this chain of hotels. It looks a bit expensive but with a kitchen the possibilities are endless. Yes, I do have to cook but my special one is quiet and I am happy with that.

Austin downtown
Austin didn’t have much but Sea World, San Antonio, an hour away had more to offer
We had fun in between therapies

When Pandemic hit us, our road travel increased and we started crossing many state borders. One of the states we did cross was Arkansas. My younger one was specific we needed to do something special at every place we cross and we spent time in the grounds of William J Clinton Presidential Library in Arkansas.

It was raining as we entered Arkansas
Didn’t have time to enter the library
Walked on the bridge
It was a cool walk

So for A to Z Challenge in April:

A is for Angadipuram, Abington, Austin and Arkansas.

Theme: The travel I have done.

Hope you all enjoyed all my A places, the first day in April. Hope to see you all with my B places tomorrow.
